Keep the Minerals – Lose the Buildup

glass_of_waterCalcium and magnesium are two of the four most abundant and necessary minerals in the human body.  Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body.  Calcium is necessary for growth and maintenance of bones and teeth as well as to contract muscles and blood vessels and to send messages through the nervous system.

These beneficial calcium and magnesium minerals are found in water.

The EasyWater keeps these minerals in the water without them resulting in hard water buildup. Salt type water softeners remove the calcium and magnesium minerals and replace them with salt.  Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN, co-founder, director of Innovative Healing and author of Digestive Wellnesss says, “Using water softeners to de-mineralize drinking water may reduce some of the potentially helpful effects. A water softener may help your plumbing, but it’s hard water that is better for your health.” (From WebMD article: The ABCs of a Healthy Skin Diet)

EasyWater gives you the health benefits of hard water and plumbing protection better than soft water.

Water Heater Maintenance

Posted by Gretchen Knight

waterheaterYour water heater is one of your most valuable and important household appliances but it is often forgotten about until there is a problem.   Those problems come in a number of forms from cracking and popping to a complete lack of hot water.   Many problems with your water heater can be prevented or delayed by proper ongoing maintenance.  Limescale will form inside the water heater, reducing the efficiency and shortening the lifespan of the system.  Scale buildup and sediment deposits on the heating surfaces occur in both gas and electric water heaters.
Limescale decreases heat transfer causing your water heater to be inefficient. Research from New Mexico State University showed that scale buildup increased energy consumption as much as 29% in gas water heaters and 21% in electric water heaters. EasyWater increases the efficiency of your water heater by preventing new limescale from forming and removing existing limescale from inside the heater.
A simple blowdown, the process of draining off sediment deposits from the tank, will help extend the life of the water heater. Please refer to your owner’s manual for specifics on caring for your water heater, including specific blow-down procedures.

Here is a general procedure:
1.    You can either blowdown into a bucket or run a hose from the valve to a drain.
2.    Fully open the valve for at least one minute and then close it for another minute or more. This allows the minerals to settle back down to the bottom again. Repeat this action 2 to 4 times depending upon how much sediment comes out each time you open the valve.
Every  1 to 3 months you will want to blowdown the water heater.  If the home and/or water heater have not had the FREIJE system from the beginning, scale will be removed from the piping and water heater, so the system will likely need to be blown down monthly. If everything is new, the only minerals that need to be blown down are those that naturally come out of solution through heating the water, so every 2 to 3 months will be adequate.

For additional water heater maintenance tips refer to your owner’s manual, the company website or consult your local plumber.

Californians May Need Water Softener Alternative

Posted by Gretchen Knight

recyclewaterAB2270, a water recycling bill before the California State Senate, has been deemed a water softener ban bill by the Water Quality Association.  This new law is designed to promote recycled water use by setting and tracking progress of recycled water targets and removing barriers for recycled water use.  This bill contains a provision allowing for an increase by local authorities to regulate salt type water softeners.    Recycled water is wastewater from homes and businesses that goes through advanced treatment processes to remove bacteria and pollutants.   Recycled water is used mostly for irrigation purposes, though additional uses exist under strict guidelines.

Should this bill pass, as it is expected to, California residents may find the need for an alternative to their salt type water softener.  EasyWater is an alternative.  EasyWater is an environmentally friendly alternative to a salt softener because it will condition the water and prevent limescale buildup without the use of sodium, potassium or other chemicals.
